2K Fit for Sound to Narrows School Program

Fit for Sound to Narrows (Fit4S2N) is a structured eight-week training program designed in partnership with the Tacoma City Running Club and MultiCare’s Center for Health Equity and Wellness, getting students ages 12 years and younger ready to compete in the annual Sound to Narrows run. Participating elementary schools throughout Pierce County have dedicated coaches who help young athletes of all abilities train to walk or run the 1.2 mile route.

Dates to remember

  • March 1: Online registration opens for Fit for Sound to Narrows 2k
  • April 17-21: Eight-week training program begins
  • June 8: Packet pick-up at Cheney Stadium
  • June 10: Start of the 2k race at 8am in Vassault Park

Cost

  • $5: 2k school program (ages 5- 12 years,) includes 8 week program and S2N registration fee
  • $10: 2k buddy (ages 13+), includes Sound to Narrows race registration fee
  • $10: Optional, official Sound to Narrows technical T-shirt

Materials provided to coaches will include Sound to Narrows posters and cotton training T-shirts for participating schools. Tacoma City Running Club, upon request, will provide instruction and inspiration from Tacoma’s top runners and coaches. All 2k racers will receive an official finishers medal, and top three will be announced at the stage beginning at 9:45am on race day.

Parents and guardians can pick-up children’s running bibs/timing chip and tech shirts (if purchased) at the official Sound to Narrows packet pick-up at Tacoma Rainiers Cheney Stadium in advance or on race day at the registration tent beginning at 6:30am.
